Yesterday the Russian search giant announced the launch of a new smart speaker, Google Home style. Dubbed Yandex.Station, the device “not only our first hardware product, but also the first smart speaker [made] for the Russian market,” Yandex stated.
Yandex.Station includes such basic functions as creating alarms and playing music hands-free, but also “incorporates a full video streaming experience,” according to its maker.
“Its users can search for and playback videos, movies and television shows from a wide variety of sources. Currently, Yandex.Station has access to Yandex’s video streaming service KinoPoisk, as well as a wide range of other content including premium local video service providers ivi and Amediateka.”
Yandex.Station is powered by Alice, an intelligent voice assistant which Yandex launched last year. Alice can create alarms and reminders, get the weather, read the news or fairy tales, sing songs, and more. It may also express absurd judgments which drew much attention lately.
Yandex.Station is on sale only in Russia for 9,990 rubles (around $150).
