Vkontakte.ru, the leading social networking site in Russia and most Russian speaking countries, has registered a Ukrainian subsidiary and opened an office in Kiev, the company’s press secretary Vladislav Tsyplukhin told the Ukrainian news agency AIN.UA yesterday.
In an effort to deal more directly with local advertisers and media, the Ukrainian representative office intends to fully integrate Vkontakte.ru in the local market. It plans to employ no less than 10 persons by the end of 2012.
Vkontakte currently counts more than 20 million registered users from Ukraine out of a total of 155 million users worldwide. 6.6 million of them visit the site daily.
Headquartered in St. Petersburg, Vkontakte has made its site available in 75 languages.
Vkontakte’s press service was not available for comment when contacted yesterday.
